iRime has been approved and is available today! iRime is a perfect app for parents or teachers working with kids on reading words, or on spelling. iRime is also an excellent app for learning English, because it gives users a US English pronunciation for each 'chunk'
and for each real word.
Find it on the iTunes Store for $0.99!
It has a 9+ rating for infrequent/mild profanity or crude humor. This is because iRime will let users make 'naughty' words on the screen (it has all the blocks, after all), but it won't read them out loud. If you find an exception, please comment here and let me know.

iTunes Store Status
iRime's status in the iTunes Store changed today from 'waiting for review' to 'in review'. iRime was submitted on Oct 25, so that makes ten days. From what I hear, this is about normal and better than it was a year ago. Fingers crossed for iRime's approval and upcoming availability on the iTunes Store!

iRime Posted to iTunes Store
iRime is a language manipulative. Rimes are predictably spelled ending chunks for single-syllable words. Rimes make up thousands of real words in English. Learners who master the concept of matching onsets (beginning consonants) to rimes will understand a key concept in English spelling and reading.
English phonics are notoriously hard to master, and vowels are at the heart of the problem tackled by iRime. We have between 14-18 vowel sounds in English, but only 5-6 letters to cover those sounds. Also, the spellings tend to be historical in nature, harking to a time when English emerged as a mix of French and English. So it is often very difficult to predict what a vowel letter is going to say when reading a word, or which vowel letters you should pick when spelling. Rimes are phonograms, which means they are typical spellings for a sound. iRime helps readers learn to read and spell thousands of English words.
The problem with most manipulatives for phonics and spelling is that they don't match the sounds to the letters. iRime solves that problem--it speaks! iRime allows you to tap the chunks of words to hear them pronounced separately. If you put an onset and rime together, and if these chunks make a real word, iRime pronounces the whole word for you.
